Helping Students Find Their Rhythm

A book that speaks LOUDLY to the "QUIET MOMENTS" in a student's walk with Christ

I have really enjoyed the Rhythms series. Taking moments to focus not only on the "BIG'' moments, but the quiet moments where you get to grow deeper in your walk with Christ. There are a lot of resources and books out there that focus on the big and exciting moments, but not as many when it comes to walking through the "rhythms" of life that include both ups and downs. One of my favorites for students is "Uncensored: Finding God When He Feels Far Away" by Jeanne Mayo.

It is a quick read at 117 pages and written especially for students. This is a great resource for your student to dig into. Through both Scripture and real life stories Jeanne unpacks principles to help students go through "quiet moments". Jeanne takes her 50 years of experience in student ministry to give students practical and impactful advice on how to grow closer to Jesus through the "rhythms" of life.

The book is laid out in a more "conversational" format. Instead of just reading information, your student will feel like they are sitting down, having a coffee (or a Dr. Pepper), and hearing Jeanne unpack 5 decades of walking beside students as they navigate the rhythms of life.

My favorite chapter is Chapter 7 - "Solitary Confinement".

The chapter contrasts the feelings of loneliness that is so common in current youth culture with choosing to have “aloneness” with God (this is now known as the emotional epidemic of the decade). In this chapter she contrasts how many students get stuck in feeling lonely and not take the time to utilize the "quiet moments" in life to spend them as "alone" time with God. This chapter alone is packed with rich content that will help your student navigate common things they will encounter during their teenage years.

Woven throughout the book you will see the key theme of having spiritual disciplines. Students will get practical advice on pursuing Christ and having a daily relationship with Him.

This book will give your student the opportunity to have a conversation about their walk with Christ and how they are walking through the different seasons/rhythms they are experiencing.

PS - This is the second book in a series. The first book "Dating Declassified" is a great resource for talking through dating and friendships with your student.
